TRUE or FALSE: "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" was actually based on a REAL car known as "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"?

The fictional car that had a mind of it's own { long before Herbie the Love Bug }
was actually based upon a series of racing cars designed by an inventor whose
background {and name}was just as colorful as Commander Caractacus Pott
{Crack-Pott} ...

Count Zborski, whose family had a heritage of racing motor cars,
with the help of engineer friend Captain Clive Gallop, designed
and built three aero-engined racing cars which became informally
known as "Chitty Bang Bang". (The origin of this name is not
certain however it is thought derive from a bawdy World War One
soldier's song.)

The cars were each modified from a mercedes chassis with a
subsequent modified six cylinder engine and were quite famous
for their time, actually winning several cross country races at
an equally astounding speed of over 100 MPH in the early 20's
{ which was almost unheard of }
